Hello fellow night enthusiast. Thank you for joining us here. Did you get a chance to read last week's article about Frontline Defencer NVGs? Well today we review a couple helmet stands that I have use for holding my helmets in product photos. But they also work at holding your helmet.
When I started a few years ago I used a gallon jug as an improvised helmet stand. I did not use it for long and looked for a mannequin bust as a helmet stand. I found one on Amazon and I used it for years.
The head worked but it wasnt great. It was under sized so helmets and ear pro sit on it weird. And getting goggls to line up with the eyes took some work. I used a circular spacer that would sit ontop of the Amazon helmet stand so helmets would sit high enough for goggles to line up with the eyes.
Ikea Iskarna Helmet Stand To The Rescue
I was walking through IKEA with the family and noticed this glowing head. It is designed to glow different colors but if you turn it off, it is opaque white. It is marketed as a display stand for hats. Well a helmet is a sort of hat.
The Ikea Iskarna is only $35.99 at IKEA.
I found the Iskarna helmet stand is a perfect fit for my helmet. No need to adjust anything, just plop it down on the Iskarna and buckle the chin strap.
My only issue with it is how short the neck is. But if you elevate the Iskarna, you can fit balaclavas on it.
It Is 2024, We Can Build A Helmet Stand, We Have The Technology
2024 is the year of the 3D printed skull helmet stand. Jean Francois Aries is the artist who made the CAD file for these 3D printable skulls. I bought this skull from Hamza. It has some sort of Aztec aesthetic to it which I did not really care for. I have seen viking runes as a variant skull. Aside from the unecessary embellishments, I actually like this helmet stand aesthetic. It looks great with NODs down.
After I posted pictures of this skull helmet stand, my friend Tony reached out and we talked about an alternate skull styled helmet stand. So he whipped up a Terminator T-800 for me. It has its own stand. But unlike the other skulls, the T-800 helmet stand is all one piece with the stand. In hind sight we should have elevated the skull from the stand so chin straps can go on the chin. Instead I just have the chin strap go behind the chin.
NodPods Cyber Skull Helmet Stand
It was Tomm Veneable of NodPod.us who made what the people wanted, a cyber punk/sci-fi skull. Not quite Terminator to avoid copyright infringement but close enough to evoke the same feeling and it was designed by the same artist as the other skull. The Cyber Skull helmet stand is printed in a metallic looking filamet to evoke that Terminator skull aesthetic. Even better they designed it so the eyes glow!. As you can see in the photo above, the eyes glow a different color. You can get interchangeable eyes.
They did a great job and I love the interchangeable eyes.
The Cyber Skull retails for $90-$95. The $5 difference is for the other color eyes. Well worth the extra $5. One thing to note about the cyber skull is that most of its asethetic gets hidden by a helmet. Nods up is not so bad, and the glowing eyes look awesome.
But once the NODs come down, it looks like a silver skull.
If you want the Cyber Skull helmet stand, go to Nodpod.us.
